I have been a regular visitor of IMDB for over three years,and as far as I can remember, Godfather ruled the charts.But there is this new upstart called The Dark Knight,a Batman movie that has made a stellar climb to the top of the chart.Running in theatres for just 4 days it has managed to garner 23 thousand-odd votes and get a whooping score of 9.5! But,as I have pointed out to my friends,I will wait for another 3 weeks and see whether it has maintained that top position.Things including opinions can change.

I wrote something about a funny program yesterday,and the program sent by friend Sriram was nevertheless good,but I would say it lacked efficiency.So I thought of a way the computer would be made to do less calculations and improve the speed;my idea was to reduce the number of iterations by avoiding the procedure of checking each and every four digit number for the condition.Instead the program could check if the second digit was greater than the first,then only move on.Likewise using nested for loops the program's efficiency could be improved.Here's the program I wrote:

A funny program

I have been attending C# classes for a week now..The class hasn't come to the part where the language displays its advancements from its predecessors.Till now we have been learning the C# counterparts of classes,print statements,etc.So you can say it's no too interesting at the moment thought I am sure it will be in another couple of weeks(but there's another reason why I never miss class :-D ) Anyway,I thought of a program while I was in class-a simple one rather,but my point was that the program should be efficiently done as possible.The program should print all four digit numbers whose second digit was greater than the first and third digits;the fourth digit should be greater than the third.My bud Sriram wrote the program.You can check it out here.

I have finally decided to get a new mp3 player;I amreally starting to miss those days when I used to spend time on my terrace whilst listening to songs of all genres in my Transcend.I only know too well how often I wonder about life and its problems and how unwinding on the terrace can help me sort it all out.Coming back to topic,I have opted for the Sandisk Sansa Fuze over the iPod(though nothing personal against the latter).It costs around Rs.4.5k.Check here for a good review.

oh what a stunning match in the game of tennis !!! world no. 1 Roger federer VS world no.2 Rafael nadal here at lawn tennis on sun eve.... the match went for nearly 5 hrs .... one of the rarest exciting match ever watched.... the 5 time wimbledon champion Roger federer losed a close encounter against his rival in centre court but in personal a very good friend Rafael nadal...

The spaniard swept the first two set with little ease but federer came back stongly in second and third set and beating nadal in both the tie breakers .... but Nadal held his nerve and in the fifth set which is also very close but in a slight margin he has beaten the world no.1 federer..... so nadal holds the record of winning both roland garros and wimbledon title the same year.... Hats off nadal !!!

In post match conference Federer said he has tried everything against the spaniard and praised Nadal for his splendid performance... what best a compliment Nadal could get more than this !!!

I was under the impression that the longest word in English was "encyclopedia" until my fifth grade.But it was only a few hours back that I found this word in the Oxford dictionary.

I was browsing through the Internet and found this amazing video of a clone fight.Albeit its poor quality,the video is a fine example of professional editing.I believe the fellow who made this used Adobe Premiere and Particle Illusion for the editing and special effects.That shows how far we have gone in the field of video editing technology.Had he used a much better camcorder,the video is fit to be classified as professional.

All editing work and special effects were done using Adobe Premiere, Adobe Photoshop, Particle Illusion, and 3DS MaxAdobe After Effects !!!

I came across this puzzle a few days back and I must confess that it got me stumped for a while.But finally,I was able to solve it.Here's the puzzle:

Given four wine glasses such that each has same size and shape.You need to arrange them so that the center of the foot of anyone is equidistant from all the rest.

Here's the solution:
Place 3 of the wine glasses on the table so as to form an Equilateral triangle, each side being equal to the height of a single glass. Then place the 4th glass upside down in the middle. Got it?

I watched a movie called Equilibrium last night and thought I would put my two cents in.I remember reading a review on IMDB comparing it with The Matrix.Yes,there were certain similarities that one cannot help noticing,but don't expect the same storyline.I believe the Matrix series used a far more complicated and thus difficult script hence making it hard to understand and therefore love it even more.Equilibrium is set in the future;mankind has devised an ingenious way to avoid war.What is that prompts the very feeling to wage a war with a country?Feeling itself!The urge to destroy,the will to conquer,the greed to plunder-in short,emotion.So men decide that if emotions were to be suppressed(using a drug) all the problems of Pandora's box could be shut off.A group called The Tetragrammaton are appointed to weed out people who refuse to take the drug.John Preston(Christian Bale) who head a special sector of the Tetragrammaton called The Clerics finds himself giving into emotions and ultimately decides that the solution is not in repressing emotion,but rather in controlling them-for the ability to love and feel is indeed God's gift to mankind.
I'd personally give the film an 8 on a scale of ten.

I finished reading Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None today.It took me roughly eight hours to finish and I enjoyed every second of it.Each syllable of the book had Christie's magicial touch;it is one book you would find it hard to put down once you start on it.The story is about ten people(complete strangers to each other) who go to an island on invitation for a holiday-and end up being murdered.Sounds ordinary? It isn't,for the ten are the only people on the island,and every one of them end up being dead.The last one goes by committing suicide.Ah,that's the murderer then,you say?It is certainly not so.
Interesting?I suggest you read this novel.

I dig songs that picturised beautifully and are shot with fine taste.Music videos that have been shot in a foreign country just for the sake of it aren't exactly my cup of tea.The musical score,the feel of the song and the lyrics should go hand in glove with the video,otherwise you merely get a song with a foreign backdrop sans taste or finesse.I was much impressed with the way Mani Ratnam handled the picturisation for the song Pachai Nirame from Alaipayuthey.The whole song has been shot in India,with exquisite places like Kashmir.

Little Miss Sunshine

I download and watch at least 4 movies a week.And I usually go by IMDB's rating considering the number of votes each film gets.I went along with this opinion and downloaded Little Miss Sunshine;
and it was after 101 minutes that I decided to change that opinion.The movie certainly doesn't deserve an 8.1!The movie didn't turn out to be the comedy that was bound to make you laugh and at the same time realise the importance of family.I didn't find anything worthwhile in it,but that's just my two cents.

The Phonebooth

I downloaded a copy of Phonebooth yesterday and watched it this morning.I must say it was rather good,with all the suspense.Collin Farell plays Stu Shepard,the hero in the movie.Stu uses a pay phone to call his mistress (Katie Holmes) and after he hung up the phone rings. He picks it up, of course, and learns that there is a sniper on the other side of the line. When he hangs up the sniper will shoot him, so he is told. Before he entered the booth we saw Stu talking on his cell phone as a PR-man, constantly lying to people. The sniper has observed Stu and thinks he deserves to die.When the sniper demonstrates he is real by shooting a pimp near the booth the police arrives and thinks Stu is the shooter. Capt. Ramey (Forest Whitaker) slowly understands things are not as they seem.Colin Farrell who is in almost every scene is great. First he looks so confident and slowly he becomes more and more desperate. The voice of the sniper (Kiefer Sutherland) is also perfect for the movie. It sounds calm but creepy, like a dangerous man who knows what he is doing.The movie is not very long and here that is a very good thing. Scenes are not dragged to make the movie as long as most movies and therefor it doesn't get boring. It kept me on the edge of my seat. A very good thriller.I gave IMDB a rating of 7/10 for all its worth.

I restrain myself from downloading A R Rahman albums and buy the CD,but it can be really testing when the distributers f*ck up and the CD's arrive a couple of days after it has been released.In the case of Jodha Akbar, I gave in to Temptation and downloaded it,promising myself to buy the CD when it came out(which I did,so there).I was impressed with Azeem-o-Shah,liked Jash-e-bahara and was carried away by Khwaja.However,In Lamho failed to make any impression;maybe it was because I couldn't understand the lyrics,or it was another of ARR's special slow poisoning numbers.My friend said it was the best in the album;I had to disagree with her.It was after the tamil version of the songs were released that I listened to "Idhayam Idam Mariyathey" in a new light(or rather in a new sound).After listening to the ultra romantic number a few good number of times for good measure(and ergo doing justice to ARR),I messaged my friend saying "In Lamho rocks!"It has been my favorite in the album ever since :)

Creating a 3d effect in Windows

I found a cool tweak in Windows using which you can create a ncie 3d effect in Windows.You need to know how to edit values in the Registry Editor.For safety's sake better back up your registry rather than jacking it up and blaming me for it :)
Here's how you do it:

1.Open up Regedit using Start->Run->Type regedit and hit Enter.
2. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Colors
3.Make sure the following settings are there,or just edit the values:
• ButtonHilight=128 128 128
• ButtonShadow=255 255 255

That's just about it.Job done :)

What;s your IQ?

I came across an article about Einstein getting a stellar score of 269 in an IQ test.Now that was one hell of a brain!,I think to myself.However,the article went on to state that such a score is impossible,and Einstein's IQ was actually somewhere around 180.I checked out some reliable sources I know on the net,and found that any score above 140 qualifies you as a genius.
But that depends on the test you take.I took some IQ tests on a few sites that claimed to be "the standard and very precise test for determining your IQ".I got around 140 in most ones(and ergo I have a doubt that they may not be standard after all!) There's one at www.iqtest.dk that follows the same pattern as Mensa's.I suggest you check it out.

Wake up and smell the coffee,dude!,this morning tells me.Wish I could do that.Oh I would gladly,if it hadn't been for my carelessness.Last night I was listening to some music on my Transcend mp3 player,and like a drunkard falling asleep with the burning cigar in hand,I had dozed off-with the exception that the player wasn't in my hand;it was below my left shoulder,and God knows what other places in my body it had been crushed against during the night.I woke up with something sticking painfully in my bellybutton,and there's my player,with two buttons popping out dolefully.
Seems my player's crushed for good.It can't be repaired,and I'm not spending more that what I actually paid for buying it.I will wait for some cash to roll in,before I buy a new one.Enough said,this post is in loving memory for my Transcend.

CHESS

There is a famous story about the creator of the Chess game and the Emperor ('story' = donno whether its true). This STORY is a fascinating one and it makes us understand the power of exponential growth. The story goes like this... The inventor of chess took his creation to his emperor to get reward for his work. The Emperor became extremely happy about the game and asked the inventor to get whatever he wants for his work. The inventor asks to give 1 grain of rice for the first square in the chess board and double the number for every other square till the 64th square is reached (note: there are 64 squares in a chess board....mostly). I too thought that the emperor might not have a pretty daughter after the inventor chose such a small and modest wish ;) The emperor comfortably agreed for this. He ordered his men to get the grains immediately from his granary. The count started with 1 grain of rice for the first square, followed by 2 for the second square, then 4, then 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048, 4096, 8192, 16384, 32768........By the time he was compensated for half the chessboard, he owned all of the rice in the kingdom and, by the sixty-fourth square, the emperor owed him 10,000,000,000,000,000,000 grains of rice. phew! And the inventor lived happily ever after :-)

Dragon Illusion

This is a cool optical illusion. I've downloaded and made one as per the given instructions and got stunned. When I moved left and right, this dragon stares at me and seem like moving its head. Have a look at the video, to see what I mean.

How does it work? If we move around when viewing a solid object, our brain knows how the object we are looking at should behave. However the dragon gives us the wrong clues, because we mis-interpret what its shape is. We assume that the nose of the dragon is pointing out towards us, but in fact the dragon's head is concave.

Download a copy of the actual dragon and try this illusion for yourself. you have printed the dragon out (a colour printer is best since this is a colour image) then you can cut out the dragon, fold and stick it, and you will be able to see this fantastic illusion yourself. When you print the page out, you will see that the instructions for folding the dragon are included. Please follow these instructions exactly.

Color Keying technique (Also called as chroma key)

How often did you get stunned with your favourite hero flying or floating in the sky? Ever thought of how harrypotter fly high with his broomstick? All this is nothing but the outcome of the color keying technique!

Color keying is a method of removing a particular colour from a video. Suppose you are wearing a dress completely red in color covering full body except your head. If i take a video of your complete body and key off the red colour, what i get in the screen is the MAGICAL you! Your head floating without your body! Did you get what does color keying mean? Green and blue are the most commonly used color for keying off.

Now, how does this technique make someone float in the sky? Take a video of the sky where you want someone to float. Take another video of somebody making actions in a room with a unique color as his background screen. Now open up a video editing software ( I usually use Adobe after effects to do this). Key off the color in that background screen and layer this video to the sky video ( If you do not understand about the layering and video editing stuff, its OK! Just get the idea as of now. This layering is a simple process called as compositing.) You will see the guy making those actions in the sky. Color keying is as simple as that!
